Acne occur when hair follicles get clogged by oil or dead skin cells, primarily affecting oily areas like the face, upper part of chest, and back. During puberty, this problem takes a toll on many teenagers as they go through hormonal changes. They often leave behind scars, too.
A safe and natural treatment for acne and acne scars is the application of Turmeric, as it has antiseptic, antibacterial and clarifying properties. It can be applied in form of a face mask along with other ingredients depending upon your skin type.
Here are some masks that can be made at home and can give excellent results:
Mint has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that complement the benefits of turmeric. It also has a cooling effect which soothes the skin. Mix 1 tsp of turmeric powder with 2 tsp of mint tea to form a paste, and apply on the affected areas using a clean brush. Keep it on for 30 minutes and rinse off.
Using antioxidants helps in restoring damaged skin cells due to acne scarring. This mask can also reduce discoloration. The ingredients in this mask have clarifying and antibacterial properties. Mix 1 tsp each of sandalwood powder, turmeric powder and warm milk and apply the paste on your acne scarred skin. Keep for 30 minutes and wash off. This is safe to use twice a week.
The skin gets dehydrated due to heat and pollution exposure, which is why it is necessary to restore its health. This mask will help you tighten your pores, get smooth skin and reduce the appearance of scars. Honey also has disinfectant properties that clean pores thoroughly. Mix 1 tbsp each of raw/organic honey and turmeric powder in a bowl and warm it in a microwave for a minute. Apply on a clean and dry face and rinse off after 20 minutes.
This mask is perfect for hydrating, and adding antioxidants. Coconut oil restores the balance of oil in your skin while at the same time fighting off infections and inflammation. Mix 1 tbsp each of coconut oil and turmeric powder and apply it on a clean dry face. Leave it on for 15 minutes and wash off with water.
Chickpea flour absorbs excess oil, cleans pores and prevents them from getting clogged. Whereas, rose water is an astringent that hydrates and reduces discoloration. Mix 1 tbsp of turmeric powder and 2 tbsp each of chickpea flour and rose water. Apply on the affected areas and leave it on for 15 minutes. Wash off with cold water. Use this mask twice a week for best results.
